Priyanka’s father Late Rajiv Gandhi was a very incredible personality in Indian politics.He was the 7th Rajiv Gandhi was a professional pilot for Indian Airlines before entering politics. While at Cambridge, he met Italian-born Sonia Gandhi whom he later married. He remained aloof from politics despite his mother being the Indian Prime Minister, and it was only following the death of his younger brother Sanjay Gandhi in 1980 that Rajiv entered politics. After the assassination of his mother in 1984 after Operation Blue Star, Indian National Congress party leaders nominated him to be Prime Minister.

20th August1944-Born in Bombay (Mumbai)
                   1960-Passed Senior Combridge Examination from Doon School,Dehradun.
                   1962-Left for U.K.for higher Studies.
                   1963-Joined Trinity College combridge to study Mechanical Engineering.
                   1965-Met Sonia Maino,an italian,studying at language teaching school,Cambridge.
28th Feb.   1968-Married Sonia Maino
May            1968-Joined Indian Airlines as a pilot.
11th May    1981-Joined Politics enrolled himself as a primary members of the Congress.
15 June      1981-Got elected from Amethi Lok Shabha Constituency.
2 Feb.        1983-Appointed as General Secretary of Congress.
31st Oct.    1984-His mother Indira Gandhi, the then prime minister of India, was assassinated
                              was swom in as Prime Minister.
November  1984-Congress party returned to power with massive mandate with rajiv gandhi as
                               its leader.
31st Dec.   1984-Was swom in as Prime Minister for the second time.
24th July     1985-Signed a memorandum of settlement for the Assam problems.
15th Dec.   1985-Received the Beyond war Award from beyond war foundation.
4th Aug.      1986-Participated in Commonwealth summit,London.
8th Aug.      1986-Participated in the Six-Nation summit on peace and disarment Maxico.
1 Sept.        1986-Participated in the Eight Non-Aligned Summit,Harare.
10 Sept.      1986-Received Nicaragua's highest Award 'Augusto caeser sandina order'.
29 July         1987-Signed an agreement with Sri Lanka.
Nov.             1989-Rajiv Gandhi elected as leader of the opposition.
21st May     1991-Killed in a Bomb explosion while election-eering at Sriperumbudur,
                               Tamil Nadu.
24 May        1991-Last Journey mortal remains consigned to flames.
17th June    1991-Bharat Ratna, the highest honour of the country conferred past humerusly.
6th July        1991-Sonia Gandhi received the award "Bharat Ratna".
